Blackjack Player: The number of Players that you control
Number of Card Decks: The number of 52-card Card Decks. They will be shuffled each round. The lower the value, the lower the house edge will be.
Dealer Rules: How the blackjack dealer should act. H17 means "Dealer hits soft 17" (soft 17: 17 with an Ace that is counted as 11 Points) and S17 means stand on soft 17.
Animate Cards: Card deal and Hit will be animated if this box is checked.
Time Between Rounds: Time to wait between the end of a round and the beginning of the next one (in milliseconds).
Show Card Values: display total value of a blackjack hand next to the player.
Hint to correct move: colors in the button that represents the best move if following basic strategy for blackjack. At the moment it calculates the best move using the following settings (even if you applied other settings. this feature is intended for beginning blackjack players to learn basis strategy, so the subtle differences in basic strategy for other rules are not that important): 4 or more decks, dealer stands on soft 17, double any two cards, double after split, no surrender, no peek

Blackjack Rules

double down: maximum allowed betting amount is used automatically
double after split allowed
split: double after split is allowed
split: split aces may be hit
split: all equal-ranking cards may be split (e.g. 4-4, 10-10, 10-jack)
split: a total of 3 splits is permitted per player (so the player may end up at the most with 4 hands to play, also called "resplit to 4")
Blackjack after split: counted as non-blackjack 21

What is Blackjack

Blackjack is a popular card game played most often in casinos. Blackjack is considered a gambling game because - even though there are strategies a player should follow - the blackjack player will always lose in the long term (except if he/she is cheating or the casino adjusted its blackjack rules (eg for promotions) so that the house has a negative edge). It is still fun to play though, and if you play good, you will not lose too much money ;)

How to play Blackjack

Your goal when playing blackjack is to get a hand with a higher value than the dealer has without getting over 21 points. Blackjack is played with a french deck which contains the cards from 2 to ace. Jack, Queen and King are each worth 10 points, an Ace can be valued at 1 or 11 and the rest of the cards are worth the numeric value shown on the card.

At the beginning of a blackjack round each player gets two cards and can request as many cards as he/she wants.

The possible actions are:

Hit: get another card.
Stand: do not get another card, end this round.
Double: double the amount of money bet and receive one further card. no more actions are permitted afterwards.
Split: if the initial two cards have the same value they may be split. In that case, the player must double the bet and receives one card on each of the beginning cards. Each of these hands will then be played separately.
Surrender: do not play this round. Half of the bet will be kept by the blackjack dealer.
Insurance: If the dealer has an Ace up, a player may bet that the dealer has blackjack. This is nearly never a good move.

Known Bugs in this Javascript Blackjack implementation

Depending on the amount of blackjack players it can happen, that the cards overlay the hit and stand buttons. In that case, you may use the buttons given in BlackJack Controls or use a different amount of blackjack players.
Firefox STILL has not implemented the html range tag and STILL has a weak implementation of the html number tag, so the view is not as good in firefox. Also, the bet amount is sometimes evaluated to NaN in Firefox so it is best to not change it (if it is NaN, it will be set to default value) or use a different browser.
